Farmstead and Crow Creek

Hey yall...I apologize that I haven't kept you posted since Barefoot but here I am to tell you about the last couple tournaments.

Farmstead was an experience to say the least. I fired a 74 my first round and was 8 back of the leader who had shot a 66. The next day we played in the worst conditions of the year and personally, my life. It was 35 degrees and we had wind gusts of 40mph. I played solid golf but ended up missing the cut by a couple. An example of how hard the wind blew was our second hole. The first day on hole 2 we could hit driver-wedge. It was only 390yds. Second day I hit driver 4 iron. WOW!

Moving on to this week we went back to the course in which I started my professional career, Crow Creek. The field was very weak due to weather and a separate tour starting up in Hilton Head.

I started off with a 72 first round and shot a 76 today. I MADE THE CUT! It gives me great satisfaction to have made another cut and allows me to leave my professional career on a bit of a high note.

Thank You to everyone who has supported me during this endeavor. I truly have enjoyed my time down here and have met friends that I will keep forever.

Barefoot Resort

Hey yall,

This week we played at the Dye course Barefoot resort. This was by far the best course we played during this series. We got rained out on Tuesday so we were scheduled for 36 holes on Wednesday. I started at 9:45 and came out solid opening with an even par front 9. Then my energy seemed to just drop. I played the next six holes struggling to swing the club. I started the back 9 with two bogeys and then on hole 15 I took a triple bogey 6. I ended with a birdie on 18 to finish with a 76.

My second round I played solid solid golf and again started my second round with an even par 36. I got through 7 holes on the back 9 and was then called off the course due to darkness.

I came back Thursday morning to finish my 2 holes. I was 4 over for the tournament knowing that the cut was going to be around 3 or 4 over. I made par on 8 and came to 9 needing birdie or no worse then par. I hit a great drive and a good second shot to about 25 feet. I then gunned my first putt by about 4 feet and went on to miss that putt to end up at 5 over for the tournament and missing the cut by 1.

My stats for the tournament

76
Greens 11/18 Fairways 9/14 Putts 29

73
Greens 14/18 Fairways 8/14 Putts 34

Thanks for the support!

Back in Action!

Tuesday, Wednesday was this weeks tournament played at Brunswick Plantation. On Tuesday the wind howled and I sufferd for it on the front nine. I started off 6 over on the first 6 holes. I couldn't seem to grasp the speed of the greens and was constantly backing away because of the wind. I ended up with 4 three putts and a 4 putt.

After those 6 holes I played the rest of the tournament even par. If I could take away the first 6 holes I played better than anyone in the tournament. Unfortunetly, I can't and ended up missing the cut by 3 strokes.

I am starting to play much much much better and am excited about playing these last 3tournaments.

My stats from Brunswick -78-72

78
Putts 37 - Greens 11/18 - Fairways 13/14

72
Putts 32 - Greens 13/18 - Fairways 13/14

Finished t-7

Hey friends,

Finished up today with a 73 which put me at 6 over and tied for 7th. I hit and putted the ball better than I have in a long time so obviously a step in the right direction.

For all those who care about length and the new drivers out there....I decided before my second round that putting the ball in play was the most important thing at this golf course. I hit 3 wood off of every hole today including the par 5's. So think about that!

My stats today were...10/14 fairways 11/18 greens 29 putts

If you look at my scorecard I played solid golf all day until my 16th hole where I took an 8. Disappointed about that hole but I brought it back with an eagle on the next hole. Thats golf for ya...

Thanks for your support!

Made the cut!

I made the cut....I shot 74 75 and I am 6 off the lead. The course is playing tough and even tougher are the greens. I hit the ball great and I finally feel like the old me.

My stats today were... 9/14 Fairways 12/18 Greens 32 Putts

I hope to play well tomorrow and make a big paycheck.

Thanks for ya'lls support.

t-6th after day 1

I'm starting to play like the old me! My main thought every time i'm over the golf ball is no fear. If you have fear over the golf ball don't hit it. Anyways today was round 1 at River Hills. I played better than I have which has put me right there...

My Stats were - Greens 11/18 Fairways 6/14 Putts 30

How cold is it right now?

Practicing right now is next to impossible due to the weather. You need multiple layers of clothing to even go outside. I know ya'll have it worse back north so I know I have to quit complaining.

Looking forward to next weeks tournament at River Hills....same course I played for the Jack Frost Scramble.

A tough day but.....

Im slowly getting out of my own way....When I got down here I thought I had to be a certain kind of golfer. I have since realized what allowed me to be a good golfer in the first place. It wasn't hitting a thousand golf balls a day nor was it putting for hours on end. It was being able to feel my way around a golf course. Creating shots.

So, the rest of the time im down here I will be trying to get back to what made me good....believing in myself!

Tough Tournament

Friends,

Yesterday was the final day of golf in 2009 for Geoffrey A. Montross. We had a challenging test of golf at Tidewater Golf Club. I had a plenty of excuses for my poor play but we all know what excuses are like...

I had spurts where I played great golf. A total of 6 holes in the 36 that I played doomed my 2 rounds.

I'm taking it easy the next few days due to sickness. I hope that I get better fast so I can hit the links next week.

Happy New Year!

Missed Cut....Better Play.

December 16th was the second day of the tournament at Black Bear. I started off with quick birdies at 1 and 2. I wasn't hitting the ball great but my putting and overall shortgame was very good. I bogied 6,13 and 17 to be 1 over for the day.

The 18th hole is a 540 par 5 with the second shot over water. I hit a great drive and left myself with 235yds to the hole. I decdided then to go for the green in 2 and came up short in the water. I was proud of myself for taking the chance at hitting the green and potentially making eagle but I was disappointed I didn't pull off the shot. I made a double bogey on the hole and ended up missing the cut by 3.

I played much better overall but still plenty of work to do. The next tourny is the 28th.

Happy Holidays to everybody following me!

Day 1 at Black Bear

A little better....Today was the first day at Black Bear Golf Club. I shot an even par round 72. The greens were a little rough due to overseeding and the course was a swamp. I missed a couple chippies that could have lowered the score by 3 or 4. As of right now i'm tied for 24th.

It's a step in the right direction....I found that after 2 early bogies I really allowed myself to get out of my own way and just play golf.

My stats were 11/14 Fairways, 11/18 Greens and 28 Putts. There were about four greens that I was just off the edge and was still able to putt.

I'm striking the ball much better and the putter is even contrubuting.

My last blog I talked a little about Zach Sebert. Well, he also show a 72 today and we got paired together for tomorrow. It's supposed to be very cold tomorrow but looking forward to building on today's round.

Black Bear

Tomorrow is the first day of this weeks tournament. This week we are playing Black Bear Golf Club. Tuesday is supposed to be wet. Considering that the course is already underwater we aren't looking to good to get out until Wedenesday.

I have met some outstanding golfers down here. One in particular Zach Sebert. Zach was the captain of Ohio State's golf team from 07-09. Zach and I have been practicing and playing a lot together and I have been learning a lot about how he mentally approaches tournaments, since he has won about 20.

I'm excited about this tournament and look forward to breaking through with some quality play.

Jack Frost.Brunswick Plantation. Internet

Hey Yall,

First off my internet has not been working for the past couple days hence why I haven't gotten anything out to you. right now I'm typing this from a computer at the bowling alley.

The Jack Frost Scramble was a lot of fun. Our group finished at 18 under 1 out of the money. It was interesting because I was teeing off forward tees. The course had a lot of doglegs so my teammates were telling me to aim over houses to try to cut corners. Really weird when your aiming over a house that is 20 yards in front of you.

Wednesday and Thursday was my second tournament at Brunswick Plantation. The first day I didn't hit the ball great but was better than it had been. I shot 75 - My stats were 13/14 Fairways. 15/18 greens and 32 putts. Still not putting great and something I really have been focusing on. The second day was a blustery one. Gusts of up to 35 mph. I shot 77 - My stats were 12/14 Fairways. 12/18 Greens and 32 putts. It was kind of a struggle all day. I ended up missing the cut by 7.

I know I can play better. A couple more dropped putts and I'll make it.

Thanks for the support.

Jack Frost Scramble at River Hills

Saturday and Sunday I will participating in a Scramble Tournament. The tournament is called the Jack Frost Scramble. The idea is that you create a team consisting of 5 players and play 36 holes of stroke play. There is about 170 players that will be playing. Saturday there is some money that can be won but the big dollars are earned on Sunday where there is an estimated pot of 350K.

One of my members at International CC, Pete Walsh set this up a couple months back. When he heard that I was going to be down here he invited me to play.

This will be a good tournament for me to be able to hit some shots that I have been relentlessly working on without really feeling the sting of a potential missed shot.

I will keep you posted!

Well...it can't get any worse.

Hey yall...Today was the first day of the first tournament down here in the Carolinas. I unfortunetly played very poorly and am pretty disappointed about it. I'm chalking it up to a learning experience and hope that tomorrow proves to be a brighter day.

About the course. Crow Creek CC

par 72 7100+ yards. It was very wet out there today because of rain last night. It probably was playing pretty close to 7400 yards. Water on almost every hole. The par 3's and 5's are very strong.

My Stats- Ugly 7/18 Greens 10/14 Fairways 31 Putts. Iron play was the biggest problem and something I will work out soon.

I'm here for 30 min....and I'm already at the golf course?

I arrived safely down here in Calabash, NC. The place that I got set up in is like a little hotel room. Just enough for a golfer who is going to be here for 3 months. I got here around 3:00 and went straight Sand Piper Bay Golf and CC where I will playing and practicing.

Started my diet which includes fruits, vegetables and oatmeal. The exercise includes core exercises and a mile run each night.

Keep in touch...I would love to hear from you!
